NATURISM/ NUDISM
Naturism is a way of living in harmony with nature and fully repecting the surrounding environment, by the practising of complete nudity with the aim of promoting the respect of each individual for himself, for others and for the environment.
Nude sun and water bathing, practicing sporting activities, a healthy diet, finding time for yourself and to improve your relationships with others in pleasing and entertaining ways is the basis of Naturist philosophy. Nudism is simply a way of making contact with nature.
In times when one speaks ever more frequently of ecology, a return to nature, respect for the environment, Tuscany too offers many occasions and places in which naturism can be practised.
Firenze
Torrente Diaterna: The Diaterna stream is to be found in the Mugello area and is a tributary of the river Santerno. The naturist area is in the Scheggianico locality in the municipality of Firenzuola in the Province of Florence. Scheggianico is about 9 km (5.5 miles) from Firenzuola. After passing through Scheggianico but before the bridge, take the uphill road to the left. It is best to park the car in the area and carry on on foot.
Bagno a Ripoli - lake Castelruggero: In summer, near the Capannuccia.

Grosseto
Capalbio: The site is on the beach in front of Lake Burano, very beautiful: it has been included in the WWF reserve. To get there, as well as from the sea, you have to walk along the beach. An ideal spot to spend a really peaceful day.
Mount Argentario: The beach called “the Feniglia” is in the southern part of the promontory. You can get there on foot through a beautiful pinewood or, coming from Porto Ercole, by walking along the beach. The naturists tnd to gather in the central part of the beach which is less frequented.
Marina di Alberese: A fine sandy beach in an uncontaminated environment, near to the Parco dell’Uccellina. From the parking area by the sea at Marina di Alberese, carry on along the beach in a southerly direction. After about 1.5 km (1 mile) the number of costumed bathers tends to diminish gives way to the area frequented by the naturists. Alternatively, from the parking area, go north towards Bocca d’Ombrone (mouth of the river Ombrone). Naturists can also be found along this stretch but the beach is less attractive due to flotsam brought down by the river.

Livorno
Buca di Livorno (LI) (in Leghorn Province): Not far from the Buca delle fate (Fairy grotto). Use the first car park on the right, coming up from Baratti towards Populonia, then take the path to the right. Once at the cliffs, turn back and take the first path on the left. Both the first bay you come across and the second one are ideal spots.

Just take the Strada della Principessa (Princess road), which runs parallel to the sea between San Vincenzo and Populonia, in a southerly direction towards Piombino for about 5km (3 miles). Leave the car and follow the path to the sea, then walk south along the beach for about 300 m. It’s about a ten minute walk in all.
